Trying to find a manual for a used tetra whisper 30-60 filter, Tetra website is no help and googling hasn't helped either. I just want to make sure that I have the filters in right, the water flow exiting would pass thru the drop-in filter in this order, white-carbon-blue and the bio sponge being last. Plus on the bio sponge cage, one side is flat and the other side has small lugs that need to go toward the aquarium so the water can pass thru the sponge, if the flat side of the bio sponge cage faces the aquarium the water can't pass thru the sponge, it will just climb over it. Is this right?
I think I had my bio-sponge in backward, Water level was pretty high, close to the overflow. Went to take the filter pack out to clean it when I noticed that the water was trying to flow over the top of the bio-sponges and that the flat part of the cage was facing the aquarium, reversed it so the lugs were facing the aquarium and the water level dropped down suggesting that the water was now passing thru the sponge instead of trying to climb over it. I think I have it right now but would like to have the manual so I could be sure.
Buzzing is usually a voltage issue. This means there may be low voltage in your neighborhood. That is common when temps are extreme and everyone's heat is really cranking it out. If the filter is plugged into a power strip with surge protection, that usually eliminates the noise. Another possibility could be build up, sludge, hard water deposits, other debris on the impeller or in the motor. Taking it apart and cleaning it may resolve the issue.

The last possible cause would be an improperly balanced impeller.
